The island of Korcula is approximately 47 klms long and averages 5 to 8 klms in width. Mountains with winding roads divides the coast but it doesn't take long by car to get around. So today we headed to Korcula - a walled city that reminded me of a smaller version of Dubrovnik, Croatia. There were narrow walkways, old churches and small nooks and crannies everywhere. It was really lovely. We had lunch and shopped a little before visiting the Marco Polo Museum. Korcula is where he was born. Finn and I climbed the old bell tower which had an amazingly narrow and steep stairwell. Going up was not too bad but boy, I felt it on my knees on the way down. K keeps reminding me that I'm ready for the more easy holidays such as ship cruises.
We then headed to Lombado that have a pebbly beach. Tilly swam for a short period whilst K and I had a coffee under shade cover that looked like it came from a Gilligan's Island television set. On the return home, I stopped on an off road where a small deserted village was in the middle of bushland. I had to walk a fair way to get some pics when I remembered the road signs warning of boars. As I walked I thought I could hear some noises from the bushes but I think my imagination may have been working overtime. Nevertheless, I grabbed a large rock - not that it would have done much. I must admit I was glad to return to the car. It wasn't even worth it for the photos I took as I am not that happy with them.
Tomorrow we will explore Blato.
