Day 32 - Casablanca, Morocco

We changed our minds of meeting up with Dominic and Monica as we met another Aussie couple - Meredith and Trevor at breakfast who we spent half the day with. We walked to Hassan II Mosque. It is the largest Mosque in Africa and 7th largest in the world. A maximum of 105,000 worshippers can gather together for prayer - 25,000 inside the mosque hall and another 80,000 on the mosque's outside grounds.

People are incredibly friendly always greeting and welcoming us in the streets to Morocco. Casablanca is a mad city with cars, people, borrows and bikes everywhere and there doesn't seem to be any road rules. People really get offended if you take their picture without consent and most seem to decline.

We parted company with Meredith and Trevor and walked through the old medina - a  lybarinth of hundreds of tiny pokey shops selling anything from live chickens that are slaughtered on the spot to hand washing of clothes there and then. There are people everywhere in the medina but I think we were the only tourists. Motor bikes wiz through the narrow crowded lane ways and people pushing barrows of, at times I'm not sure what, but no one seems to get hurt. We ate a great lunch at a local cafe. We saw the replica of Rick's Cafe from the Bogart and Bergman movie Casablanca but did not eat there. The whole day has been great and an amazing experience.

We returned to the hotel to change rooms for a third time. This one is larger and better again. We never do tours but for Morocco we thought we would. So after a meeting with the organizers and some paperwork, we all headed off to dinner to get to know each other. It was really enjoyable and there are a few Aussies in the small group of 14 including us.

It's a 6am start as we head to Fez.
